Synopsis: Jack Monroe was born John Smith Jr. in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and grew up in San Diego, California with a short detour through Washington D.C. He is the adopted son and only child of retired Navy fighter pilot, Capt. John “Hawk” Smith (former Top Gun C.O. and subject of the book, Roger Ball!) and Virginia “Miss Jenny” Smith (a devoted mother, rowdy Navy wife and dedicated matron saint of the arts).

After studying film at San Francisco State, Mr. Monroe moved to Los Angeles in 1994 to pursue his career in the entertainment industry. His education continued as an assistant to producer, Michael Manheim (Leap of Faith/Dirty Pictures) and production assistant on the ABC telefilm, TRIAL BY FIRE (1995).

As a writer, he has had two short scripts produced: THE DRIVE (1996) which received an award for Best Short by the Black American Cinema Society, and LETTING GO (1998) which he also directed. Mr. Monroe’s first feature, RAZORTOOTH was produced by Mike Elliott (The Devil’s Rejects/Peaceful Warrior) and is due to be released by Lionsgate in 2009.

As an actor, he has appeared on stage in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST for which he took home the award for Best Character Actor, and can be seen as “Chubby Deputy” in the up-coming RAZORTOOTH.

For the last decade, Mr. Monroe has worked on a number of writing assignments including, RAY’S LIST OF GOOD DEEDS (1998) for Moonglow Entertainment in New York, NIGHT KRAWLERS (2001) which was sold to Kismet Entertainment, SHIVER (2003) for producer, William Stuart (The Rock), and EVERYONE MUST DIE (2006) for Czech producer, Petr Firt (a project that required him to travel to Prague, Czech Republic to research the story).

Mr. Monroe most recently directed the Internet series PALISADES POOL PARTY (2008) and before that, a promotional short for the feature, PITCHFORK (2006), a horror film he plans to direct in the near future.

Currently, he has just finished another writing assignment, WOLF PACK, re-teaming with producer Mike Elliott, and is in development on a number of Internet series. He now resides in Tujunga, CA, with his wife, Sona, and their amazing daughters, Madilyn and Nicole.
